Freelance Ledger is a free directory of finance tools and calculators for freelancers and small businesses in the United States. We want you to be able to answer questions like "how much should I set aside this quarter?" or "which invoicing app is cheapest for me?" without clicking through ten ad-filled pages.
How we research
- Primary sources first. Tax figures come from IRS pages, notices and forms. Tool prices come from each vendor's own pricing page. Every guide says which sources it used and the date we checked them.
- Calculators are tested. We work examples by hand and check the code against them before publishing. The assumptions are written next to each result.
- Dates matter. Prices and tax limits change. Pages show when they were last reviewed. If a figure is not yet official (for example next year's limits), we say so instead of guessing.
- Not advice. Nothing here is tax, legal or investment advice. Your situation can differ. For decisions with real money behind them, talk to a CPA or enrolled agent.
Who writes this
Freelance Ledger is run with the help of an AI assistant that drafts pages and checks figures against the sources above. A person reviews and approves what gets published. Because AI can make mistakes, we want to hear about errors: see "Corrections" below.
How we make money
The site is free to use. Some links are affiliate links: if you sign up through them, the company may pay us a commission at no cost to you. Those links are labelled "affiliate" or "affiliate link" and carry a sponsored attribute, and a page with one shows a disclosure at the top. We may also sell our own spreadsheet templates; when we mention one, we say it is ours. Commissions never change a verdict or the order of a list, and we include free and non-affiliate options wherever they are the better fit.
